Following up on the previous coordination meeting of the working group on the evaluation of the National Park of Wasur’s Long-Term Management Plan (RPJP), FORCLIME facilitated a recent workshop in order to evaluate the national park’s current management plan. The workshop was held online on 30 August at the national park’s office in Merauke and was opened by the head of the national park, Mr. Yarman. During the meeting, the results of field monitoring efforts and evaluations of achievement indicators under the programmes implemented by TN Wasur were discussed. In addition, the workshop participants also addressed the importance of developing a new RPJP due to changes in TN Wasur’s management zones, differences in area and the fact that the current RPJP report outline does not refer to the most recent provisions, meaning that adjustments are now required.

As a follow-up, the technical team will prepare a final report on the results of the evaluation of the national park’s RPJP for the 2014 - 2023 period and send a copy to the Head of TN Wasur to be forwarded to the Directorate of Conservation Areas at the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK).

“Support from FORCLIME has been very good and meant that the RPJP evaluation workshop could go ahead. This activity is a priority programme that must be completed in 2021 and is also being prioritised by the Directorate of Conservation Areas at the Ministry of Environment and Forestry,” explained Mr Yarman.
