In an effort to coordinate the implementation of various activities during 2023, the West Papua Natural Resources Conservation Center (BBKSDA), working in conjunction with FORCLIME, held a meeting on 5 June 2023 at the BBKSDA Office in Manokwari, West Papua. The meeting was chaired by the Head of the Natural Resources Conservation Technical Division, Mr. Tasliman S.P., M.P., and addressed several matters, including:
- Development of a Long-Term Management Plan (RPJP) document for the Pantai Sausapor Nature Reserve.
- Plans for a discussion of the RPJP for the Pantai Sausapor Nature Reserve, which is set to be held in October 2023 in the City of Fef, Tambrauw Regency.
- Implementation of monitoring as regards the management of conservation areas through the application of the Management Effectiveness Tracking Tools (METT) method across four nature reserves in West Papua, specifically: Pulau Misool, Pulau Salawati, Pantai Sausapor, Pegunungan Tambrauw Utara, as well as the Beriat Nature Park (TWA).
The meeting also discussed plans for an orchid survey with the ultimate goal of creating an orchid database for the West Papua BBKSDA working area. The survey results will subsequently be compiled into a West Papua orchid book, which is planned to be displayed at the Flora Malesiana Symposium in Manokwari towards the middle of 2025. The orchid survey will be subject to further discussion as it has not been included in the 2023 work plan.
