Aiming at strengthening capacities for Forest Management Unit (FMU) management, FORCLIME works together with the Model FMU in Kapuas Hulu as well as the District Forest Service to conduct training on tree nursery establishment. The objective of the training is to enhance the capacity of FMU staff and local communities in providing good quality tree seedlings for various purposes. Moreover, the acquired competencies are expected to be the basis for the business development of the FMU.
Training materials used cover: planning of seed production, the seed production process starting with seed procurement, maintenance, control of pests and diseases until nursery establishment which includes site selection techniques, preparation of seedbed location, and installation of irrigation systems for watering the seedlings. The training included both direct practice in the field and theoretical presentations in the classroom.
The training was held for 4 days from 29th of July until 1st of August 2013 in Putussibau and was opened by the Head of the Plantation and Forestry Service (Disbunhut) of Kapuas Hulu, Drs. Hasan, MSi. who,. in his opening speech, highly appreciated the training activities.
The 18 participants in the training belonged to various institutions such as Disbunhut of Kapuas Hulu, FMU Kapuas Hulu, Extension Forestry Unit, Saka Wana Bhakti, and the FORCLIME Programme Management Unit in the district (District Project Management Unit - DPMU).
