The District Plantation and Forestry Service of Kapuas Hulu, together with GIZ FORCLIME and the local civil society organisation Kami Anak Bangsa (KABAN), conducted a meeting in the village of Nanga Lauk, Embaloh Hilir sub-district, Kapuas Hulu district in West Kalimantan province to disseminate information concerning Community Based Forest Management (CBFM). The two-days meeting was undertaken from 30th  – 31st of August 2013 and was attended by 43 inhabitants of the village.
The objective of the activity was to increase public comprehension about polices related to forest resource management. Additionally, members of the local community were also able to get further information on policies for non-timber forest products (NTFPs), particularly forest honey, through the establishment of a Forest Honey Working Group as part of the social forestry scheme.

It is expected that the event will lead to increased public knowledge and understanding about the concept of CBFM, as well as provide evidence of possible NTFP management potentials, such as honey collection, in Nanga Lauk village.
Nanga Lauk village, as many villages in Embaloh Hilir sub-district, is located along the river. Most of the village area is lowland or swamp forest, including peatlands which are an ideal habitat for honey-bees. Furthermore, Nanga Lauk lies within a Model Forest Management Unit (FMU) which constitutes a pilot area for the development and trialling of emission reduction efforts as part of the Indonesian – German cooperation through the FORCLIME programme.
