Together with the Indonesian Orangutan Conservation Forum (FORINA) and the Natural Resources Conservation Agency (Balai Konservasi Sumber Daya Alam – BKSDA) of West Kalimantan, FORCLIME facilitated a coordination meeting between parties involved in the protection of orangutans in Kalimantan. The meeting was held in early September 2013 in Sukadana, North Kayong District, West Kalimantan.
The objective of the meeting was to enhance coordination and synergies among the actors who focus on orangutan conservation in West Kalimantan. Through the meeting the participants obtained recent data and information on the conservation of orangutans and their habitat, including also problems they faced along the process. Additionally, the meeting also aimed at evaluating the implementation of the action plan and collecting input for reformulating the Orangutan Conservation Joined Plan for 2013 – 2015, which is based on the Strategy and Action Plan for Orangutan Conservation in Indonesia (2007 - 2017). The Strategy and Action Plan for Orangutan Conservation in Indonesia was launched by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono at COP 13 in Bali in 2007, and then later settled as the Minister of Forestry Regulation P.53/Menhut-IV/2007.
The results of the coordination meeting will be used as inputs of the meeting proceeding.
