At the end of last year on 20 December 2010 a memorandum of understanding has been developed between the Agency of Danau Sentarum National Park and its partners. General objective of the arrangement is to achieve best management of national park that located at the Heart of Borneo (HoB) area, additionally, with the intention to improve community’s livelihood. Specific objective of the cooperation is to generate synergy in conducting programmes of the Agency of Danau Sentarum National Park and its partners.

The memorandum attached with matrix of work plan of partners from 2010-2014. The matrix describes who is doing what and where (location), additionally, source of funding. Therefore, the matrix illustrates mapping of actors working in the Danau Sentarum National Park. Through the collaboration, it is expected that Danau Sentarum National Park will be managed fairly, sustainable, gender responsive, respecting local wisdom, as well as giving attention to local empowerment.

Danau Sentarum National Park is located in West Kalimantan Province. The area represents lake wetland, freshwater swamp forest, and tropical rain lowland forest ecosystems. Danau (Lake) Sentarum, a seasonal lake, is located in part of the Kapuas River Basin, about 700 km from the estuary that flows into the Karimata Strait. Surrounded by hills and highland, Lake Sentarum forms an important water catchment area, and at the same time regulates the water flow through the Kapuas watershed. All the areas downstream are therefore highly dependent on the fluctuating water level of the lake.
