With the aim to improve the capacity of forest managers at the site level, the Provincial Forestry Services of East and North Kalimantan and FORCLIME jointly organized a training on Developing Forest Management Plan for Forest Management Unit (FMU) on 27-29 April 2017 in Samarinda, East Kalimantan. 35 participants represented the FMUs (East Kalimantan and North Kalimantan Provinces), the East Kalimantan Provincial Forestry Service, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry implementing unit for forest planning (Balai Pemantapan Kawasan Hutan - BPKH) and the Training Center of Environment and Forestry (Balai Diklat Lingkungan Hidup dan Kehutanan - BDLHK) in Samarinda, East Kalimantan.
During the training participants gained knowledge related to FMU as the management unit on the ground, including the concept of FMU development, legal aspects and technical basis for preparing management planning (Long Term Forest Management Plan - RPHJP).
Challenges during the RPHJP preparation include: (1) Limited access to acquire accurate and valid data; (2) Shortcoming skills in mapping development; (3) Inadequate capability to incorporate the stakeholders’ concerns in utilizing forest area.
