In May 2018, the Forest Management Unit (FMU) Kapuas Hulu Utara, West Kalimantan started to conduct meetings in the villages Pulau Manak, Benua Martinus, Sungai Utik and Labian Ira’Ang in the sub-district of Embaloh Hulu, Kapuas Hulu, West Kalimantan. The meetings aim on starting a local reviewing process of customary rights forest (so-called hutan adat) areas which are accepted by every area-related stakeholder. Therefore, to achieve this target the FMU Kapuas Hulu Utara and FORCLIME informed the heads of villages and heads of sub-districts about the need for clarifying and confirming the exact forest areas. This is to ensure a legal basis for applications for customary right forest licenses. Customary rights forests are one out of five social forestry schemes. FORCLIME supports the FMU Kapuas Hulu Utara in developing social forestry schemes and operationalization of relevant field activities accordingly.
Similar meetings will be conducted soon in the sub-district of Lanjak, Kapuas Hulu district, West Kalimantan.
