Aiming to increase the capacity of its lecturers (widyaiswara) and staff, the Center for Environmental and Forestry Education and Training of Samarinda (BD LHK Samarinda) conducted a study tour to the FORCLIME working area in Berau District on 25-27 July. Eight participants visited the Berau Barat Forest Management Unit (KPH Berau Barat) and villages supported by the FORCLIME financial cooperation module (FC module): Labanan Makmur, Labanan Makarti and Merasa. The study tour was conducted collaboratively between the BD LHK Samarinda and the FORCLIME technical cooperation (TC module) and and financial cooperation (FC module).
In his remarks, the Head of BD LHK Samarinda highlights that widyaiswara have to take this opportunity to gather as much information as possible from the field to enhance the teaching materials.
The final agenda of the study tour is a one-day workshop on the lessons learned documentation related to forest management at FMU and community development practices in the villages visited. Participants of the workshop were the BD LHK Samarinda team, KPH Berau Barat, Field Facilitators of the FC Module and representatives from the visited villages. Workshop participants agreed to prepare three lessons learned documents: (1) The role of KPH Berau Barat in community empowerment; (2) Experiences of the FORCLIME FC module in participatory boundary mapping and participatory land use planning; (3) Development of the Prosperity Approach through agroforestry practices. The lessons learned documents are scheduled to be completed by early September 2018.
