Aiming to set up independent Forest Management Units (Kesatuan Pengelolaan Hutan-KPH), the North Kalimantan Provincial Forestry Service conducted a training on Basic Entrepreneurship for KPHs on 30 July-3 August in Tarakan, North Kalimantan. The training aimed to improve knowledge and skills to identify business potential, analyze value chains and develop business plans. 25 participants represented five KPHs, the social forestry licensed Forest Farmers Group (KTH), the Environment and Forestry Education and Training Center of Samarinda, the Directorate General of Protection Forest Management Units and local NGOs. The training was carried out in collaboration with FORCLIME and the North Kalimantan KPH Forum.
During the training, participants practiced organizing interviews related to value chains with entrepreneurs working with eucalyptus oil, shrimp, swallow nests, and ecotourism. As the final programme, participants visited the eucalyptus oil industry that was initiated by the KPH Tarakan.
The training will be followed up with mentoring sessions to prepare a business plan, additionally, advanced training on entrepreneurship will be conducted in October 2018.
