Aiming to develop strategy of human resource capacity building for Forest Management Units (FMU) in West Kalimantan, the West Kalimantan Provincial Forestry Service in collaboration with GIZ and the Bogor Environmental and Forestry Education and Training Center (BDLHK) conducted a workshop to discuss the results of the identification of training needs assessment (TNA) for FMUs on 19 November 2019 in Pontianak, West Kalimantan. The purpose of the event was to validate the TNA result of the assessments that have been carried out at several KPHs in Kapuas Hulu. Through the TNA results an overview of the FMU human resource condition in West Kalimantan is obtained. The workshop was attended by 40 participants, representing the Human Resources Planning and Development Agency (BP2SDM) of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, the technical implementation unit of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry in West Kalimantan, the West Kalimantan Provincial Government agencies, local universities, NGOs and village forest community representatives.

The Head of the West Kalimantan Provincial Forestry Service stated that soon the forestry service will develop a regulation to differentiate the roles of the Forestry Service and the FMU, additionally, they will prepare a roadmap for accelerating the development of independent FMUs in West Kalimantan.

Results of the workshop are the priority trainings for FMUs in West Kalimantan Province, including: applying GIS (measuring and mapping), operating Drones, marketing and promoting of Non-Timber Forest Products and Environmental Services.
