The district government of Kapuas Hulu and the management authority of Betung Kerihun Danau Sentarum National Park officially launched the logo of the Biosphere Reserve Betung Kerihun Danau Sentarum Kapuas Hulu on 8 July 2019 in Putussibau, West Kalimantan. The launched logo is the winner of a logo design competition for this newly established biosphere reserve. The UNESCO's International Coordinating Council (ICC) Man and Biosphere (MAB) announced Betung Kerihun Danau Sentarum Kapuas Hulu as UNECSO Biosphere Reserve in Palembang on July 25th 2018. The winner of the logo design contest is Miss Efiyati, who is originally from Lanjak, Batang Lupar Subdistrict, Kapuas Hulu district. She receives a prize money of IDR 10 million. The logo competition was supported by GIZ.
The Regent of Kapuas Hulu District, Mr. A.M. Nasir, expects that through the establishment as biosphere reserve new and improved economic opportunities will be created, such as eco-tourism development that will benefit local communities.

The Head of West Kalimantan Provincial Forestry Service, Untad Dharmawan, commenced a training for communication facilitators to prevent forest and land fires (Karhutla) in Kubu Raya District, West Kalimantan. The training participants were members of the Karhutla Brigade of the Kubu Raya Forest Management Unit (KPH Kubu Raya). Through this training, participants gained knowledge about Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) as a provision to become a facilitator of the village model for implementing forest and land fire prevention activities. The four selected model villages are: Desa Limbung; Desa Teluk Bakung; Desa Rasau Jaya Umum, and Desa Lingga. The training was conducted on 8-9 and 11 July 2019 in Pontianak, it was supported by GIZ and collaboratively implemented by the KPH Kubu Raya, the Forest Service of West Kalimantan Province; the Ministry of Development of Less Developed Villages and Transmigration; the Directorate of Forest and Land Fire Control and the Ministry of Environment and Forestry.

The North Kalimantan Forestry Service conducted a meeting with the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (Directorate of Planning of Forest Land Use and Establishment of Forest Management Units) and GIZ on 27June 2019 in Tanjung Selor, North Kalimantan. The meeting aimed to finalize the 2019-2037 provincial forest plan (RKTP), which has been through public consultation and improved in 2015 and 2018, respectively. In addition, the meeting also scheduled some activities for August to September 2019, such as finalizing document, approval process, document production and undertaking dissemination events.
Official from DG Forestry Planning and Environment Governance, Ms Neni Supreni, of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry said that RKTP is a mandate from the regulation of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry P.49/Menhut-II/2011; and North Kalimantan is one of the provinces that accelerates developing the forest plan (RKTP).
