GIZ in cooperation with the NGO Working Group Tenure (WG-T) conducted a workshop on “Agreement Drafting in Multi-Stakeholder Conflicts within the Sector of Natural Resources” on August 13-15 in Bogor. The participants were three government and two NGO representatives from Kapuas Hulu in West Kalimantan, nine participants from Berau in East Kalimantan and three representatives of the CRU-IBCSD (Conflict Resolution Unit of the Indonesia Business Council on Sustainable Development). The workshop was aiming to teach the mentees how to draft an agreement once a mediation in a multi-stakeholder conflict has been successfully conducted.

The mentees learned about the various steps that need to be taken to write an official agreement, the legal and official background of agreements in the natural resource sector, various techniques on achieving consensus between the various stakeholders involved in such conflicts and transforming verbal agreements into a written document. Next to thematic presentations, the trainers put an emphasis on practical training and simulations of conflict mediations to increase the mentees’ skill set on applied methods in achieving consensual agreements within multi-stakeholder conflicts and documenting the results in an appropriate way.

The FORCLIME Technical Cooperation (TC) Module held the second internal coordination meeting on 13-15 August in Makassar, South Sulawesi. Objective of the meeting is to reflect what has been done and achievements in the previous quarter or months. The main feature of this quarterly meeting is the presentation on progress and lessons learned of 15 interns from University of Cenderawasih and University of Papua. The interns appreciated the opportunity of participating in the FORCLIME internship programme and commit to implement the knowledge and experiences gained during the internship.

During the meeting the FORCLIME Financial Cooperation (FC) Module presented updates on its progress at the pilot districts in Kalimantan.

The Climate Corner of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (MoEF) conducted a discussion on "Prevention of Forest and Land Fire using the Sustainable Landscape Management Approach at the Village Level, in the Forest Management Unit (KPH) of Kubu Raya in West Kalimantan" on 7 August 2019 at Manggala Wanabakti Building, Jakarta. Three resource persons made presentation at the discussion, namely: Eva Famurianti (Directorate of Forest and Land Fire Control, Directorate General of Climate Change Management, MoEF); Prof. Bambang Hero (Professor of Forest Protection, IPB University), and Ponty Wijaya (Head of KPH Kubu Raya). The event, supported by FORCLIME, was attended by more than 70 people representing the MoEF technical unit, NGOs, university students, journalists.

On his presentation, the Head of the KPH Kubu Raya presented the effort activities carried to control forest and land fires within his working area, including the establishment of four model villages, capacity building for the Land and Forest Fire Brigade (operating drone, communication skills, facilitating community). ‘We developed maps of road access, fire vulnerable locations, ex-burnt areas; which helps us to work more effective and cost efficient', he added. These efforts are aimed to prevent land and forest fires within the KPH Kubu Raya area, which eventually can contribute to reducing carbon emissions.
